Ingredients

2 slices home-made style bread , trimmed of crust and torn into small pieces
1/4 cup ouzo ( or substitute another anise flavored liqueur )
6 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1 lb lean ground beef
1 egg
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh mint leaves or 1 teaspoon dried mint
1 garlic clove , finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
salt & freshly ground black pepper
1 cup all-purpose flour
Keftedakia, also known as Greek meatballs, are a popular dish in Greece. With a perfect combination of flavors from ouzo, mint, garlic, and oregano, these meatballs are quite a treat. They are typically served as an appetizer or part of a main dish with a side salad or mashed potatoes.

Instructions

1.Soak torn bread in ouzo, until all the liquid is absorbed.
2.In a pan, heat 4 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Saute onions until translucent.
3.In a mixing bowl, add ground beef, soaked bread, sauteed onions, egg, chopped mint, chopped garlic, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
4.With wet hands, form the mixture into meatballs and roll them in flour, shaking off any excess flour.
5.Heat the remaining oil in a pan and cook the meatballs on all sides until browned and cooked through.
6.Remove from heat and place on a paper towel-lined dish to remove excess oil. Serve hot or at room temperature.
