Ingredients

2 turnips , peeled and cubed
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 can kidney beans , drained
3 tablespoons vegetable oil

1/2 teaspoon whole fennel seeds

1/2 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root

1 cup chopped tomatoes
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
2 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon Kashmiri garam masala

Instructions

1.In a large pot, combine the turnips, water, and salt. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to low, cover and let simmer for 10 minutes.

3.In a separate pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat and add in the cumin and fennel seeds. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
4.Add the chopped red onion to the pan and cook for 5 minutes until softened. Then add in the minced ginger and garlic and cook for another 2 minutes.
5.Add the chopped tomatoes, salt, paprika, turmeric powder, ground ginger, and water to the pan. Stir and bring to a simmer for 5 minutes.
6.Pour the tomato mixture over the turnips and kidney beans in the pot. Stir to combine and let simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
7.Sprinkle Kashmiri garam masala over the top of the dish, stir and serve hot.
