Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds skinless , boneless chicken breast , cut into bite-sized chunks
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 onions , sliced thin
2 green bell peppers , cut into thin strips
4 green chile peppers , halved lengthwise
1/2 teaspoon cumin seed
1/2 teaspoon coriander seed
1/2 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
1/2 cinnamon stick
6 whole cloves
1 black cardamom pod
1/4 teaspoon fennel seed
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons coconut milk powder
1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper
salt to taste
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Kadhai Murgh with Bell Pepper is a popular recipe in India that originated in the northern part of India. It is a flavorful chicken preparation that is cooked in a Kadhai, a Indian cooking utensil. This easy-to-make dish has a unique taste, thanks to the special blend of spices it uses. The taste of this dish is a mixture of tangy, spicy and savoury with the zing of green bell peppers and hints of refreshing lemon notes from fresh cilantro. It can be paired with plain white rice, Indian bread like naan or roti and a side of yoghurt.

Instructions

1.In a mixing bowl, combine chicken with turmeric and salt, mix and let it marinate for 20 minutes.
2.In a separate pan, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add onions and saute until they turn translucent.
3.Add marinated chicken and continue to cook until the chicken is browned on all sides. Set it aside on a plate.
4.In the same pan, add bell peppers, green chilies and cook until tender. Set them aside on a plate.
5.In another pan, heat cumin, coriander, black peppercorns, cinnamon, cloves, black cardamom and fennel seeds until they start crackling.
6.Add the chicken and bell peppers to this pan, followed by water, coconut milk powder, ground red pepper and salt. Mix well, cover and simmer on low heat until chicken is fully cooked for approximately 15 more minutes. Garnish with chopped cilantro.
