1 tablespoon yeast | |
3 egg yolks | |
3 tablespoons sugar | |
4 cups flour | |
1 cup shortening | |
1 teaspoon salt | |
melted butter | |
1 beaten egg white | |
brown sugar | |
nuts , chopped | |
1/2 cup butter | |
1 lb powdered sugar | |
1 teaspoon vanilla | |
heavy cream |
1. | Heat milk in a saucepan until warm |
2. | Combine yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a bowl |
3. | Add warm milk and let sit for 5 minutes |
4. | Beat egg yolks with remaining sugar and add to yeast mixture |
5. | Add flour, shortening, and salt to mixture and knead until smooth |
6. | Cover and let rise for 1 hour |
7. | Preheat oven to 375°F |
8. | Roll dough out on floured surface |
9. | Brush with melted butter |
10. | Sprinkle brown sugar and nuts over butter |
11. | Roll up dough and place on greased baking sheet |
12. | Brush with beaten egg white |
13. | Bake for 25-30 minutes |
14. | Mix butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and enough heavy cream to make a spreadable frosting |
15. | Frost the kringle when it is cool enough to handle |
