2 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup onion , chopped
2 garlic cloves , chopped
1 1/2 lbs sweet Italian sausage ( out of casings )
28 ounces italian-style crushed tomatoes
1 jar marinara sauce
1 can tomato paste
1/4 cup parsley , chopped
1/2 cup basil leaves , chopped
2 teaspoons sea salt
3/4 teaspoon pepper
1 box lasagna noodle
1 lb whole milk ricotta cheese
1 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 extra large egg
1 lb whole milk mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup parmesan cheese , for sprinkling at end

Instructions

1.In a large skillet, heat olive oil and cook onion and garlic for 3-5 minutes.
2.Add Italian sausage into the same skillet and cook for 8-10 minutes or until browned.
3.Add crushed tomatoes, marinara sauce, tomato paste, parsley, basil, salt and pepper. Simmer the sauce for 20-30 minutes.
4.In a separate bowl, mix ricotta cheese, grated parmesan cheese, and egg.
5.Preheat oven to 375°F and cook lasagna noodles until al dente.
6.Layer noodle, ricotta mixture, sauce, and cheese alternatively in a 13” x 9” baking dish. You should be able to make three complete layers.
7.Top off with a layer of mozzarella cheese and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
8.Cover lasagna with foil and bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Then, remove foil and bake for another 25-30 minutes or until the cheese on top is golden brown.
9.Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before cutting and serving.
