Japanese Tangzhong Milk Bread, also known as Water Roux bread, is a type of bread that is becoming increasingly popular around the world due to its incredibly soft, fluffy texture. This bread is made using a unique method that involves cooking a flour and water mixture, known as tangzhong, to create a gel-like paste that is added to the dough. The result is a bread with a delicate crumb that is perfect for toast, sandwiches, or simply enjoying on its own. This recipe is easy to follow and is sure to impress friends and family with its delicious flavor and texture.

Instructions

.Start by preparing the tangzhong. In a saucepan, whisk together the bread flour and water until there are no lumps. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and forms a paste. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
.In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, instant yeast, sugar, salt, and powdered milk.
.Add in the egg, milk, and tangzhong, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
.Knead in the softened butter until the dough is smooth and elastic.
.Cover the bowl and let the dough rest in a warm place for about an hour, until it has doubled in size.
.Punch the dough down and divide into 3 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and place them in a greased loaf pan.
.Cover the pan and let the dough rise for another 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
.Bake the bread for 35-40 minutes, until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
.Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
