Jambalaya is a popular Louisiana rice dish with a blend of meats, vegetables, and spices. It originated from the Spanish and French settlers who arrived in Louisiana with their indigenous cooking styles. The dish has evolved over time but is still a staple of Creole cuisine. The name jambalaya comes from the Provençal word jambalaia which roughly translates to pilaf. This recipe is a hearty version of Jambalaya consisting of a combination of ground beef, sausage, mushrooms, onion, shallot, and rice. It is seasoned with salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper to add a bold flavor.

Instructions

1.Rinse the rice in cold water and drain well.
2.Cut the sausage into 1/4-inch rounds and chop the onions and shallot.
3.In a large pan, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes, breaking it up as it cooks into small pieces.
4.Add in the sausage, mushrooms, onions, shallots, salt, cayenne, and black pepper. Cook for another 5-7 minutes or until the sausage is lightly browned and the onions are tender.
5.Add the rice, canned gravy, and water. Stir well to combine and bring to a boil over high heat.
6.Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pan. Cook for 20-25 minutes or until the rice is fully cooked and absorbs all the liquid.
7.Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
