Jamaican beef patties are a popular street food in Jamaica that has migrated worldwide and become a favorite snack for many. These filling pastries are made up of a lightly spiced beef filling and wrapped in a flaky golden pastry. They are a perfect snack for any time of the day and can be eaten hot or cold. Jamaican beef patties are a Jamaican staple food, and they are also very versatile; the filling can easily be swapped out with different meats or vegetables.

Instructions

.In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and brown the meat, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks, for around 8 to 10 minutes.
.Add onion, garlic, fresh chili pepper, green onions, curry powder, ground cumin, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix well and cook for 3 minutes.
.Add the beef or chicken stock and breadcrumbs; bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer gently for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. It should be moist but not too wet.
.In a separate mixing bowl, sift the flour, curry powder, and salt together.
.Work the cold butter into the flour mixture using your fingers until the dough looks sandy.
.Slowly pour in ice-cold water and hold the dough together and knead gently until it forms a ball.
.Divide the dough into ten equal portions and roll each one out into circles, making 5-inch diameter circles
.Put a generous tablespoon of the beef filling into the center of each pastry circle and fold it into a half-moon shape.
.Press the edges down and use a fork to crimp the edges; this will stop the curry beef filling from coming out.
.Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F, and place the patties on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
.11 Bake the patties in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes or until golden brown. Serve hot and enjoy!
