1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cups onions , chopped
1 cup carrot , chopped
6 garlic cloves , minced
2 hot Italian sausage , casings removed

1 can no-salt-added crushed tomatoes , undrained
1 cup no-salt-added tomato sauce
1 tablespoon fresh oregano , chopped
16 ounces whole wheat pasta , uncooked
1/2 cup torn fresh basil
3 ounces parmesan cheese , grated

Instructions

1.Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
2.Add onions, carrots and garlic, and sauté for 5 minutes until tender.
3.Add the sausage and ground sirloin, and cook until browned, stirring occasionally to crumble the meat.
4.Add olives, tomato paste, sugar, kosher salt, red pepper flakes, crushed tomatoes, and tomato sauce into the slow cooker. Stir to combine the ingredients.
5.Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
6.Cook pasta according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
7.Stir basil into the sauce and serve over pasta, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
