Ingredients

2 large eggs
3/4 cup honey ( I use a light , mild variety )
1/2 cup low-fat cultured buttermilk ( I use 2 % fat buttermilk )
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 bananas , mashed
2 cups self raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup brown sugar , packed
2 tablespoons Dutch-processed cocoa powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon salt
8 1/3 tablespoons butter , room temperature
1 cup dates , pitted , chopped ( calls for 'California ' dates . I use Medjool )
1 cup pecan halves , toasted
2 tablespoons honey

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2.In a large bowl, beat the eggs until frothy. Add in the honey, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and mashed bananas, and mix well.
3.In a separate bowl, sift together the self-raising flour and baking powder. Add in the brown sugar, Dutch-processed cocoa powder, ground cinnamon, ground allspice, and salt. Mix well.
4.Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until well combined. Add in the butter, chopped dates, pecan halves, and 2 tablespoons of honey. Mix until just combined.
5.Pour the batter into a greased 9-inch (23cm) springform pan. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
