Irish Soda Bread Rolls are a staple of Irish cuisine. They are easy to prepare and were traditionally made using only four basic ingredients - flour, baking soda, salt, and buttermilk. The recipe for Irish soda bread dates back hundreds of years and was a way for people to make bread without yeast. The addition of quick-cooking oats and currants in this recipe adds flavour and texture to the rolls. These bread rolls can be enjoyed at any time of day and are a great alternative to traditional bread. They are especially delicious when served warm, fresh from the oven.

Instructions

.Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
.In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, oats, salt and baking soda. Add the currants and stir until well combined.
.In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and melted butter.
.Slowly add the buttermilk mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms.
.Turn dough out onto a floured surface, add a little flour if it is too sticky, and knead gently for 30 seconds.
.Divide dough into 12 equal pieces and shape them into rolls.
.Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and use a sharp knife to cut a cross on the top of each roll.
.Bake in the centre of the oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
.Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
.Serve warm or at room temperature, accompanied with jam, butter or cheese if you like.
