Babi Pangang is a popular Indonesian dish that's enjoyed in most Chinese restaurants worldwide. The dish originated from the Indonesian island of Java and is derived from a similar Cantonese dish called Char Siu. The main ingredient in Babi Pangang is pork, which is marinated for several hours in a marinade made from soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, ginger, and garlic. The marinade gives the meat a sweet and savory taste, which is then roasted in the oven. Although the recipe is not traditional and lacks its roots in history, it's a delicious take for individuals who desire to prepare a sumptuous Asian-inspired pork dinner for their family or friends.

Instructions

1.Preheat your oven to 375°F.
2.Combine sweet soy sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, grated ginger, crushed garlic, and onion in a small pot over low-medium heat. Cook until the onion is wilted, and the sauce has thickened, roughly 5 to 7 minutes.
3.Add chili oil (optional), lime/lemon juice, salt, and pepper and stir to combine.
4.Rub the pork with the marinade mixture and ensure each side is coated evenly. Place in an oven-safe baking pan of your choice.
5.Roast the pork for 45 minutes or until cooked thoroughly. Flip the pork halfway through the cooking duration to ensure even cooking.
6.Serve with stir-fried vegetables or rice if preferred.
