4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon butter , melted
2 cups milk , heated to boiling
hot fat ( for frying )
powdered sugar ( optional )

Laufabraud means leaf-bread which comes from the intricate leaf-like patterns that are cut into the dough by a special wheel or knife. Instructions

1.In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and melted butter together.
2.Gradually add milk to the dry mixture while stirring with a wooden spoon.
3.Combine the mixture by hand and knead until smooth dough forms.
4.Divide the dough into 20 parts to form small balls.
5.Flatten by hand and roll each ball on a floured surface to produce thin plates.
6.Cut the plates with a sharp knife, make intricate designs around the edges and in the centers of each plate.
7.Heat plenty of fat in a pan and fry the bread on both sides until golden brown.
8.Serve hot with powdered sugar sprinkled on top.
