Ingredients

2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water , 105 F. to 115 F
1 egg
1/4 cup butter
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup sour cream
2 1/2 - 3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1 cup almond paste
1 egg
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup raisins
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
1 slightly beaten egg
2 tablespoons milk
decorator sugar ( pearl sugar ) or crushed sugar cube
This Icelandic Coffee Wreath (Fyltur Hveitibraudskrans) is a traditional pastry consumed by Icelandic people in their daily lives. They are often served for breakfast in local cafés or bakeries. This recipe blends a rich dough made of flour, butter, egg and sour cream. It is then rolled and filled with almond paste, raisins and orange peel. Instructions

1.In a small bowl, stir together the yeast and warm water until the yeast dissolves.
2.In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg and then add the butter, sugar, salt, and sour cream. Mix well.
3.Gradually add flour to the mixture and stir until the dough becomes firm.
4.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
5.In a separate bowl mix almond paste, egg, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon then add raisins and orange peel. Stir well.
6.Roll dough into a rectangle shape on a floured surface.
7.Spread the almond and raisin paste onto the dough and roll the dough to make a long wreath shape.
8.Put the dough onto a baking sheet and let it rise for 30 minutes
9.Brush the top of the wreath with the slightly beaten egg and milk. Sprinkle with decorator sugar or crushed sugar cube.
10.Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes. Cool on a wire rack and serve.
