Ingredients

4 -5 slices white bread ( stale bread slices are the best )
2 medium sized potatoes ( boiled and mashed up roughly )
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
4 -5 curry leaves ( more if you like )
2 green chilies
1 teaspoon turmeric powder ( optional . I make mine without turmeric )
2 teaspoons red chili powder ( optional )
1 tablespoon oil ( more for later )
1/2 cup water tsp salt
1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon garam masala
freshly chopped coriander leaves ( to garnish )
This Bread Upma recipe is a twist on the traditional Upma recipe which is a popular breakfast dish in India. Upma is usually made with semolina or vermicelli, along with vegetables and spices. This recipe replaces the semolina or vermicelli with bread and adds mashed potatoes to make it a little different. Instructions

1.Cut the slices of bread into small square pieces.
2.Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan and add mustard seeds to it. Wait until they crackle.
3.Add curry leaves and green chilies and stir-fry for a few seconds.
4.Add mashed potatoes and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
5.Add turmeric powder and red chili powder (optional) and mix well.
6.Add in bread pieces and mix well.
7.Add 1/2 cup water and mix well. Cover the pan and let it cook for 2-3 minutes on low flame.
8.Add garam masala and mix well. Add chopped coriander leaves to garnish and serve hot.
