Ingredients

1 lb butter beans , soaked overnight
salt
2 tablespoons oil or 2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
6 tablespoons vinegar
3 tablespoons sugar
Hungarian Sweet and Sour Butter Beans, also known as ‘Káposztás Bab’ in Hungary, is a traditional dish served as a main course or as a side dish to roasted meat or sausage. The beans are cooked in a tangy sweet and sour sauce, which is made from vinegar and sugar. The dish is perfect for a cold evening and can be paired with warm bread, rice or pasta. Instructions

1.Drain and rinse the soaked butter beans and place them in a pot. Cover them with enough water and add a generous pinch of salt. Bring it to a boil and let it simmer for about an hour or until it becomes tender.
2.While the beans are cooking, prepare the sweet and sour sauce. Heat oil or butter in a small pan. Add flour and stir until it becomes golden brown. Gradually whisk in vinegar and sugar. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens. Set aside.
3.When the beans are cooked, drain the excess water and return it to the pot. Pour the sweet and sour sauce over the beans and stir well. Simmer for another 10 minutes until the sauce is well incorporated with the beans.
4.Serve the Hungarian Sweet and Sour Butter Beans with warm bread, rice or pasta.
