2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast ( one pkg . )
1/4 cup warm water
1 cup granulated sugar , plus
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 large eggs , seperated
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 tablespoon whole milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup powdered icing sugar

Instructions

1.In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.

3.In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and remaining granulated sugar. Then, cut butter into small pieces and mix it in with the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
4.Add the beaten egg yolks, yeast mixture, and vanilla to the flour mixture. Knead the dough until it's smooth and elastic.
5.Cover with a towel or plastic wrap and place in a warm area until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
6.On a floured surface, roll the dough out into a circle about 1/8 inch thick.
7.With a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the dough into 16 triangles.
8.Sprinkle each triangle with chopped walnuts. Roll up each triangle starting from the wide end towards the point. Curve to form a crescent shape.
9.Preheat the oven to 375°F and place the rolls on a greased baking sheet.
10.Beat egg whites lightly with milk and brush rolls with the mixture.
11.Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
12.Sprinkle rolls with powdered icing sugar when cooled.
