Ingredients

olive oil , for sauteing
1 onion , chopped
2 garlic cloves , crushed ( optional )
2 -3 slices rindless bacon , chopped
600 g lean stewing beef , cut into smallish cubes
2 tablespoons plain flour
2 cans diced tomatoes , drained
1/2 liter beef stock
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
2 bay leaves
sea salt , to taste
fresh ground pepper , to taste
2 -3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce , to taste
puff pastry sheet
cooking spray
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
good quality tomato sauce , to serve
Huey's Beef & Worcestershire Pies are a delicious and hearty dish that are perfect for any time of year. Made with tender cubes of beef and a rich and savory Worcestershire sauce, these pies are sure to satisfy your hunger and warm you up from the inside out. They are easy to make and only require a handful of ingredients, including store-bought puff pastry, making them a great option for a quick and easy meal. These pies are perfect for sharing with family and friends, and are sure to become a new family favorite.

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced).
2.In a large saucepan or frying pan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
3.Add onion, garlic and bacon, and cook for 2-3 minutes or until onion is soft and translucent.
4.Add beef to the pan and cook until browned on all sides.
5.Sprinkle plain flour over beef and stir to coat.
6.Add in the drained diced tomatoes, beef stock, chopped fresh parsley, bay leaves, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper.
7.Bring mixture to the boil, then reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 1 to 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
8.Discard bay leaves.
9.Divide the beef mixture equally into 4-6 pie dishes or ramekins.
10.Cut the puff pastry sheet to fit each dish/ramekin. Place the pastry over the beef mixture, and press to seal the edges. Cut a small slit in the centre of each top of pastry, to allow steam to escape.
11.Beat the egg and milk together in a small bowl, then brush over the pastry.
12.Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crisp.
13.Serve with a good quality tomato sauce.
