Ingredients

3 cups water
2 teaspoons salt
6 slices white bread , slightly stale ( crusts trimmed and cut into 1/2-inch cubes )
4 tablespoons butter
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2 egg yolks , beaten
2 tablespoons green onions , minced
1 tablespoon parsley , minced
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup milk ( more as needed )
Houskove Knedliky, also known as Czechoslovakian Bread Dumplings, is a traditional dish served in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Instructions

1.In a large pot, bring water and salt to a boil. Remove from heat.
2.In a large pan, melt butter over low heat. Add bread cubes and toss until toasted.
3.In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, egg yolks, green onions, parsley, pepper and milk. Stir into bread cubes mixture.
4.With floured hands, shape mixture into a large, 12-inch cylinder. Lower cylinder into the pot of hot water.
5.Cover and let simmer for 20 minutes. Turn cylinder over and simmer for an additional 20 minutes.
6.Remove from pot and slice into 1/2-inch pieces. Serve as a side dish or with gravy.
