Ingredients

350 g marzipan
50 g chopped almonds
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
4 tablespoons orange flower water
8 -10 phyllo pastry sheets ( depending on size of sheets )
125 g melted butter
260 g honey
Briouats are a Moroccan pastry that are traditionally filled with savory ingredients like meat and vegetables. However, this sweet version is a delicious dessert that is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. The filling is made with marzipan, chopped almonds, and almond extract, giving it a rich and nutty flavor that pairs perfectly with the crispy phyllo pastry. The briouats are then drizzled with a hot honey mixture, which adds a touch of sweetness and stickiness to each bite.

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2.In a medium bowl, combine marzipan, chopped almonds, almond extract, and 2 tablespoons orange flower water until well mixed.
3.Cut the phyllo pastry sheets in half lengthwise, cover them with a slightly damp cloth to prevent them from drying.
4.Brush a sheet of the phyllo pastry with melted butter, then fold it in half lengthwise.
5.Place a tablespoon of the almond mixture at one end and fold the pastry over to form a triangle.
6.Continue folding the pastry until you reach the end and the almond mixture is enclosed in a triangular shape.
7.Repeat until all the filling is used up.
8.Brush the top of each triangle with melted butter and bake for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown.
9.While the briouats are baking, heat the honey and 2 tablespoons orange flower water together in a saucepan, stirring occasionally.
10.Once the briouats are done, drizzle the hot honey mixture over them and serve while they are still warm.

PROS

These briouats are filled with a sweet and nutty mixture of marzipan and almonds, making them perfect for those with a sweet tooth.

CONS
