Homemade Wholemeal Pizza is a healthy take on a classic Italian meal. The crust is made with high-fiber wholemeal flour, which not only makes it healthier but also gives it a nuttier flavor and crispy texture. The pizza dough is easy to make. You can mix it by hand or a food processor, and the result is a soft and chewy base that pairs excellently with fresh veggies, juicy meats, and a variety of cheeses. This wholemeal pizza is a crowd-pleaser, and you can customize it to your liking with your favorite toppings.

Instructions

1.In a mixing bowl, add the flour.
2.Add yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix to combine all the ingredients.
3.Pour in 3 tablespoons olive oil and most of the water. Mix and add more water until the dough is just combined, not too wet, and not too dry.
4.Knead the dough for a few minutes until it's elastic and smooth.
5.Form the dough into a ball, cover with cling wrap, and let it rest for 20-30 minutes.
6.Preheat the oven to 220C.
7.Flour your work surface or pizza tray and gently roll out the dough to make a thin pizza crust.
8.Spread tomato puree on top of the pizza crust and sprinkle with mixed Italian herbs.
9.Place sliced vegetables and sliced cooked meat of your choice. Then add grated cheddar cheese evenly on the top of the pizza crust.
10.Add thinly sliced mozzarella cheese on top of the grated cheddar cheese, making sure it's evenly distributed.
11.Bake in a preheated oven at 220C for 12-15 minutes.
12.Slice and serve hot.

PROS

Homemade Wholemeal Pizza is a healthy alternative to store-bought pizza dough.
Also, you can load up on veggies, protein, and a variety of cheeses to make it a nutrient-packed meal.
This pizza is perfect for a quick dinner or a weekend gathering with friends.

CONS

Wholemeal flour can be dense and heavy, and the pizza dough may not get puffy up as much as a regular flour pizza dough.
You need to resist adding too many toppings; otherwise, the crust may not cook through, and the center can be gooey.

HEALTH & BENEFITS

Wholemeal flour is packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals that can lower blood pressure and sugar levels, reduce cholesterol, and aid in weight management. The variety of cheeses adds protein and calcium to the meal, whereas veggies, like bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms, boost the nutrient content and benefit digestion.
