Ingredients

2 -3 cups dried hibiscus flowers ( often called red sorrel or roselle )
2 quarts cold water
1 -2 cup sugar
1 sprig mint ( optional )
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract ( optional , to be halal make sure there is no alcohol )
1/2 teaspoon grated fresh gingerroot ( optional )
1 teaspoon orange flower water ( optional )
1/2 cup lemon juice ( optional )
Hibiscus tea is a popular beverage in Egypt and other parts of the world. The tea is made by steeping dried hibiscus flowers in hot water, which results in a refreshingly tart and floral flavor. Egyptians often sweeten the tea with sugar or honey and may add optional ingredients such as mint, ginger, or lemon for added flavor. Instructions

1.Rinse the hibiscus flowers in cold water and set aside.
2.Bring the 2 quarts of water to a boil in a large pot.
3.Once the water is boiling, add the hibiscus flowers and any optional ingredients you desire.
4.Reduce heat and let the mixture simmer for 15-20 minutes.
5.Remove from heat and let steep for an additional 15-20 minutes.
6.Strain the tea, removing any solid pieces.
7.Add sugar to taste and stir well.
8.Chill the tea in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
9.Serve with ice and garnish with mint leaves if desired.
