12 ounces prepared shortcrust pastry
4 teaspoons sugar
4 cooking apples , peeled , cored
2 ounces sultanas
1/2 finely grated an orange , rind of
1 tablespoon marmalade
1/4 ounce butter , softened
milk ( for glazing )
sugar ( for glazing )
marmalade ( for serving )
Hereford Apple Dumplings are a classic dessert that have been around for centuries. Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan.
2.Roll out the pastry to a thickness of around 3mm.
3.Cut into squares, approximately 18cm x 18 cm each.
4.In the centre of each square of pastry, place a peeled and cored apple.
5.In each apple cavity, add a teaspoon of sugar.
6.Add the sultanas to the cavity, along with some finely grated orange rind and marmalade.
7.Brush the edges of the pastry with milk and bring it up to wrap each apple tightly.
8.Place the dumplings into a shallow, ovenproof dish.
9.Brush the tops with some more milk and sprinkle with some more sugar.
10.Bake for around 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
11.Serve warm with marmalade.
