Ingredients

1/2 lb spaghetti ( I prefer thin spaghetti or capalinni )
3/4 lb lean thick sliced bacon , cut across in 1/2 inch strips
1 medium yellow onions or 1 medium white onion , chopped 1/2 to 1 inch
2 tablespoons butter
2 garlic cloves , minced
1 dash dried basil ( optional )
2 large eggs
3/4 cup half-and-half ( or cut with 50 % milk )
3/4 cup grated parmigiano-reggiano cheese
fresh ground black pepper

Instructions

1.Cook spaghetti in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente, as per instructions on the packaging.

3.Add chopped onion and butter to the skillet and sauté until onion is soft.
4.Add garlic and dried basil (if using) and sauté for another minute.

6.When the pasta is cooked, drain it and reserve 1/2 cup of the cooking water.
7.Add the drained pasta to the skillet with the onion mixture and toss well over low heat.
8.Pour egg mixture over the pasta, stirring quickly until the eggs thicken but do not scramble. You can add the reserved water to loosen the mixture if desired.
9.Add the cooked bacon, fresh ground black pepper, and remaining Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, and toss again.
10.Serve immediately, garnished with extra cheese and freshly cracked black pepper.
