Ingredients

500 g minced beef
1 onion
1/2 swede
4 carrots
5 potatoes
1 beef stock cube
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
500 ml water ( may use less )
50 g cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 200ºC.
2.Peel potatoes, chop them into small chunks and put them in a pan of boiling salted water for 15 minutes or until tender.
3.Meanwhile, heat a tablespoon of oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Add minced beef and cook for 5 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon until browned.
4.Add chopped onions, carrots and swede and cook for 10 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
5.Dissolve the beef stock cube in 500ml of boiling water and pour into the frying pan with the beef and vegetables.
6.Add Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper to taste and cook for a further 10-15 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.
7.Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them and mash them with butter and salt to taste
8.Transfer the beef mixture to an ovenproof dish, spread mashed potatoes on top, and sprinkle with grated cheese.
9.Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the pie is golden-brown.
