Ingredients

1 package soft tofu
7 ounces ground pork
6 tablespoons cornstarch
1 egg
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules ( optional )
1 teaspoon salt
5 cups water
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
10 dried shrimp
1 cup fresh pea vine shoots , trimmed
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules

He Jia Tuan Yuan, also known as Tofu Ball Soup, is a traditional Chinese dish that is commonly served during Lunar Chinese New Year celebrations. The dish is believed to bring the family together, as the tofu balls represent reunion and unity. The soft tofu balls are filled with ground pork and are simmered in a flavorful broth, then served with vegetables and seasonings for added flavor. This dish is not only delicious, but it also holds cultural significance, making it a staple during the Lunar Chinese New Year celebration.

Instructions

1.Drain and pat dry the tofu before placing it in a bowl.
2.Add the ground pork, cornstarch, egg, chicken bouillon granules, and salt to the bowl.
3.Mix everything together until combined.
4.Heat 5 cups of water in a pot on medium-high heat.
5.While the water is heating, form the tofu mixture into 1-inch balls.
6.Once the water comes to a boil, carefully add in the tofu balls one by one.
7.Reduce heat to low and let the tofu balls simmer for 10 minutes.
8.While the tofu balls are cooking, heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
9.Add the dried shrimp to the pan and cook until fragrant.
10.Add the pea vine shoots to the pan along with the chicken bouillon granules and salt.
11.Stir-fry for about 2 minutes, then set aside.
12.Once the tofu balls have cooked for 10 minutes, add the shrimp and pea vine shoots to the pot.
13.Simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes before serving.

PROS

This soup is a traditional dish served during Lunar Chinese New Year celebrations.

The tofu balls are soft and chewy, while the shrimp adds a nice umami flavor to the dish.

CONS

This dish may not be suitable for those who do not enjoy the texture of soft tofu.
