Hartson's 4th of July French Toast Flag recipe is a creative and festive dish to serve on Independence Day. The dish is designed to resemble an American flag, with blueberries, strawberries, and whipped cream topping slices of delicious, sweet and chewy Hawaiian bread. The idea behind this dish is to represent the colors of the American flag using food, which makes it a great and easy breakfast or brunch idea. Slicing strawberries to place them alongside the golden brown french toast not only makes the dish look great, but also adds flavour and extra nutrients. This meal is perfect for kids and adults who enjoy a fun and festive start to their day. Serve with bacon and coffee for a breakfast or brunch your guests will never forget!

Instructions

.Fry bacon until crispy then crumble into small pieces and set aside.
.Wash strawberries and blueberries, remove the stems from strawberries and slice them then set aside.
.Slice Hawaiian bread into thick slices, about 1 inch each.
.In a shallow dish, mix together beaten eggs, whole milk, and vanilla extract, then dip each slice of bread into the mixture.
.Heat a griddle or a frying pan on medium heat and melt some butter.
.Cook each slice of bread for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
.Arrange blueberries in the top left corner of a rectangular plate, forming a rectangle of blueberries that's about 1/3 the width of the plate.
.Next, create red stripes by alternating slices of french toast with sliced strawberries. Start with a slice of french toast on the top row, and make 4 rows of french toast, repeating 3 times.
.Use whipped cream to create the white stripes in between the rows of french toast. Begin by drawing a straight line of whipped cream at the bottom of the first row, then repeat for the remaining 5 white stripes.
.Sprinkle the crumbled bacon over the whipped cream in the top left corner, making a blueberry stripe that resembles the blue field of a flag. Serve immediately.
