Gyros is a popular Greek dish that is typically made with meat that is seasoned with a blend of herbs and spices, then slowly roasted on a spit until it is crispy and golden brown. In this recipe, we use ground beef mixed with a variety of seasonings to create a flavorful meatloaf, which is then sliced thin and served in warm pita breads. The toppings you choose to add are up to you, but traditional options include tzatziki sauce, diced tomatoes, and sliced onions. You can also pair this dish with a side of French fries or coleslaw to complete the meal.

Instructions

.Preheat the oven to 350°F.
.In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, lemon juice, oregano, cumin, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, minced onion, cayenne pepper, and breadcrumbs. Mix well.
.Knead the meat mixture for about 5-10 minutes, or until it is well-blended and has a smooth consistency.
.Shape the meat mixture into a loaf shape on a baking pan.
.Brush the top of the meat with olive oil.
.Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until it is fully cooked and has an internal temperature of 160°F.
.Once the meat is fully cooked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
.Slice the meat thinly and serve in warm pita breads with toppings of your choice. You can also fold the meat into the pita with lettuce and other optional toppings.
