Ingredients

3/4 cup milk
6 tablespoons unsalted butter , cut up

2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh rosemary

1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
Gougeres are small French savory pastries that are traditionally made with choux pastry and cheese. This recipe features Gruyere cheese, which is nutty and melts beautifully to create a rich and indulgent pastry. The subtle rosemary flavor balances well against the cheesy and salty flavor of the Gruyere cheese. These Gruyere and Rosemary Gougeres are perfect bites to have as appetizers for your parties and get-togethers, as they're easy to make, quintessentially French, and never fail to impress your guests.

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F before starting to prepare the dough. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2.In a medium saucepan, combine milk and butter over medium-high heat, then bring to a boil. Add flour and stir the mixture constantly until the dough is smooth and pulls away from the side of the saucepan.
3.Remove from heat and let cool for a minute.
4.Beat in 4 eggs individually, making sure to stir well before adding each egg in turn. Mix in gruyere cheese, rosemary, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper.
5.Using a spoon or a cookie scoop, form dough balls and arrange them on the baking sheet. Lightly beat the remaining egg and brush it over the pastry balls.
6.Bake for 20-25 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

These gougeres are fluffy, cheesy and packed with the subtle flavor of rosemary.
They make an excellent appetizer for any occasion and are a perfect match with a glass of wine.

The recipe is easy to prepare and can be baked to serve a crowd.

CONS

Since these gougeres contain cheese and butter, they are high in fat and calories.
It’s important to consume them in moderation as part of a balanced diet.
Additionally, the dough has to be worked faster to maintain its puffiness.

HEALTH & BENEFITS

Cheese is an excellent source of calcium, which is essential for healthy bones and teeth. Additionally, rosemary has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties that can help prevent chronic diseases. However, it should be noted that gougeres are not a low-calorie food and should be enjoyed in moderation.
