Ingredients

10 ounces fresh spinach , stemmed and washed
1/2 cup fresh cilantro stem
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
1/4 cup canola oil
1 cinnamon stick
8 green cardamom pods
6 whole cloves
4 garlic cloves , finely minced
2 inches piece fresh ginger ( peeled and grated )
1 large onion , quartered , then sliced 1/2-inch thick
1 fresh hot green chili pepper , cut crosswise into 1/2-inch rounds
1 teaspoon salt ( to taste )
1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup plain yogurt , whisked until smooth
1/2 teaspoon garam masala

Instructions

1.In a blender,blend spinach leaves, cilantro stems and mint leaves with 3 tablespoons of water to form a paste.
2.In a large saucepan, heat oil over medium heat and add cinnamon stick, cardamom pods and cloves. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
3.Add garlic, ginger, onions, and chili pepper. Cook mixture, stirring frequently for 8-10 minutes until onions are translucent.
4.Add the spinach paste and salt. Cook, stirring occasionally until the mixture starts to dry and darkens in color.
5.Add the ground beef to the pan and cook for about 10 minutes until browned.
6.Add in black pepper, yogurt, and garam masala.
7.Cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes until the moisture from the yogurt has been absorbed and the beef is completely cooked.
8.Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
