Kataifi pastry is a traditional Greek dessert ingredient that is used in many sweet pastries and desserts. These kataifi pastries are a sweet treat that is perfect for an after-dinner dessert or a special occasion like a birthday or holiday celebration. The shredded pastry adds a satisfying crunchy texture, while the nut filling provides a sweet and nutty flavor. These pastries are then soaked in a delicious syrup that adds an additional burst of sweetness. While the preparation process can be a bit time-consuming, the end result is well worth it.

Instructions

1.In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, chopped almonds, chopped walnuts, 1/4 cup sugar, a teaspoon of cinnamon, egg, and heavy cream.
2.Preheat your oven to 350°F.
3.Open the box of kataifi pastry and use your fingers to gently separate the strands. Take a small handful and form it into a nest shape. Repeat for the remaining pastry.
4.Fill each nest with the nut mixture.
5.Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the nests are golden-brown and crispy.
6.While the pastries are baking, make the syrup by heating the sugar, water, lemon juice, and cinnamon stick over medium heat. Cook until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly.
7.Drizzle the syrup over the hot pastries and let them cool for 10 minutes before serving.
