Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2.In a large bowl, cream together the shortening, margarine, white sugar, brown sugar and peanut butter until smooth.

4.In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and cream of tartar.
5.Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture, mixing well after each addition.
6.Fold in the rolled oats, coconut, walnuts (if using) and chocolate chips.
7.Drop dough by spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets.
8.Bake in preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until set.
9.Cool on wire racks.
