Ingredients

4 cups flour ( for white flour I prefer unbleached all-purpose )
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons butter , just melted
2 cups buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Grandma's Buttermilk Scones are a family favourite recipe that has been passed down through the generations. These scones have a deliciously light and flaky texture and are sure to become a staple in your home. Buttermilk gives these scones a tangy flavour that pairs perfectly with butter and jam. Enjoy them warm straight from the oven for the ultimate treat.

Instructions

1.Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C)
2.In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, salt, and cream of tartar.
3.Add the melted butter to the buttermilk, and then add the baking soda and stir.
4.Mix the buttermilk mixture with the dry ingredients until well combined.
5.Dust a clean surface with flour, and turn the dough onto it. Knead the dough until it comes together.
6.Pat the dough into a circle, around 1 1/2 inches thick, and then cut the dough into 8 wedges.
7.Place the wedges onto a lightly floured baking sheet and bake in the oven for around 15 minutes or until golden brown.
8.Cool on a wire rack and serve warm with butter and jam.
