1 lb chuck steak
2 medium onions
4 garlic cloves , crushed
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon marmite ( or 1 T. Worcestershire Sauce )
1/4 pint stock
1 pint crushed tomatoes
4 large potatoes
2 large carrots
3 sticks celery
1 cup frozen peas or 1 cup frozen corn kernels
1/2 cup red lentil
about 1-2 cups vegetables ( see below )
leek
rutabaga
parsnip
green pepper
green beans

Instructions

1.Cut the chuck steak into small chunks and brown in a pot with a little bit of oil. Remove the beef and set aside.
2.Add onion and garlic to the pot and cook until the vegetables are soft.
3.Add back the beef and pour in the stock. Bring it to a boil and then add marmite, bay leaf and tomatoes.
4.After one hour of cooking, add potatoes, carrots, celery, green pepper, rutabaga, parsnip, green beans, and red lentils.
5.Cook another 30-45 minutes until everything is tender. Add frozen peas or corn during the last 10 minutes to heat through.
6.Remove the bay leaf and season with salt and pepper as per taste.
7.Serve with warm crusty bread or white rice.
