2/3 lb hot Italian sausage
2/3 lb lean ground beef
28 ounces crushed tomatoes
12 ounces tomato paste
13 ounces canned tomato sauce
1/2 cup water

1/2 teaspoon fennel seed
1 teaspoon italian seasoning
1 tablespoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 tablespoons chopped parsley
12 lasagna noodles
16 ounces ricotta cheese
1/2 cup parmesan cheese
1/2 cup asiago cheese
1 egg
milk , as needed
1 lb mozzarella cheese ( shredded )
1 lb provolone cheese ( shredded )

Instructions

1.In a large skillet, cook and stir sausage, ground beef, and minced onion until brown.
2.Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, water, salt, pepper, parsley, basil, fennel seed, and Italian seasoning. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 1 hour.
3.Preheat oven to 375°F.
4.In a separate bowl, mix ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese, asiago cheese, and egg until well combined.
5.Precook lasagna noodles according to package instructions, adding milk as needed to prevent sticking.
6.Spread 1/2 of the meat sauce in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange precooked lasagna noodles evenly over sauce. Cover noodles with 1/2 of the cheese mixture. Top with 1/2 of mozzarella cheese and 1/2 of provolone cheese. Repeat layers and cover with remaining meat sauce.
7.Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for 15 minutes before serving.
