Struffoli are a traditional Italian dessert typically enjoyed around Christmastime. This recipe, passed down from Grandma Helen, features small pieces of fried dough covered in warm honey and festive sprinkles. The dough pieces are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, making for a delightful texture. Grandma Helen's Struffoli are perfect for serving at holiday gatherings or any time you want a sweet treat that is both fun and delicious!

Instructions

.Mix the eggs, sugar, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, vinegar and whiskey in a bowl. Stir well.
.Add the flour and baking powder to the mixture and use your hands to mix until the dough comes together.
.Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for a few minutes until it becomes smooth.
.Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each piece out into a long, thin rope.
.Cut the ropes into small pieces, about the size of a pea or smaller.
.Heat the oil or shortening in a large pot over medium-high heat.
.Once the oil is hot, add the small dough pieces in batches and cook them until golden brown. Be careful not to overcrowd the pot.
.Use a slotted spoon to remove the struffoli from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels.
.Heat the honey in a saucepan over low heat. Once the honey is warm and runny, add the cooked struffoli to the pot and stir well until each piece is coated in honey.
.Use a large spoon to transfer the struffoli to a serving dish, shaping them into a mound or wreath shape. Add some sprinkles on top for decoration.
.Let the struffoli cool before serving.
