Ingredients

1 cup toor dal ( cooked and mashed to form a paste )
coconut milk ( as much as required )
1 tablespoon jaggery
curry leaf
1 pinch asafoetida powder
oil
garam masala
cumin seed
2 tablespoons tamarind pulp , soaked in water
Godi Dal is a popular South Indian dish, which is a staple in many households. Instructions

1.Heat oil in a pan, add a pinch of asafoetida powder and 1 tablespoon cumin seed.
2.Once the seeds start crackling add curry leaves and sauté for a minute.
3.Add 2 tablespoons of soaked tamarind pulp and sauté for 2 minutes.
4.Now add 1 tablespoon of jaggery, garam masala and salt to taste.
5.Add cooked toor dal paste and mix well.
6.Add coconut milk and cook on low flame until heated through.
7.Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
