Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
2.Beat the butter, salt, and sugar together until light and fluffy.
3.Mix in the egg yolks until well combined.
4.In a separate bowl, sift together the baking powder and flour and add it to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until smooth.
5.Gently fold in the egg whites.
6.Combine the confectioners' sugar, crushed almonds, milk, sugar, cornstarch, salt, egg, and vanilla extract in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk constantly until thickened, then remove from heat.
7.Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch (6 mm) on a floured surface. Use a round cookie cutter to cut out 12 circles.
8.Place half of the circles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
9.Spread a layer of filling on top, then cover with a second circle of dough. Pinch the edges together to seal.
10.Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool, then serve topped with a dollop of lightly sweetened whipped cream.
