2 1/4 teaspoons dry yeast
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup butter
1 cup milk , scalded
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
5 cups all-purpose flour , sifted
1 egg
1 cup raisins
2 tablespoons orange rind , grated
1 tablespoon lemon peel , grated
1/4 cup chopped almonds
2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup hot water
1 teaspoon butter

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, dissolve the dry yeast in warm water and set aside.
2.In a large mixing bowl, mix together the butter, scalded milk, sugar, salt, and cardamom.
3.Add in 3 cups of sifted flour, mixing until well combined. Then, add in the dissolved yeast mixture and egg, mixing until smooth.
4.Add in the raisins, grated orange rind, lemon peel, and chopped almonds, mixing until well combined.
5.Gradually add in the remaining sifted flour, kneading the dough until smooth and elastic.
6.Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, then cover and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour.
7.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
8.Form the dough into two round loaves and place them on a greased baking sheet, then let them rise for another 30 minutes.
9.Bake for about 45 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown.
10.Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix together the powdered sugar, hot water, and butter to make a glaze. Once the bread is done baking, brush the glaze over the top of the bread. Let the bread cool before serving.
