German crullers are a popular pastry in Germany and many other countries, known for their unique twisted shape. They are also referred to as 'churros' in Spanish culture, just without the cinnamon sugar. These deep-fried pastries have a lighter texture than a donut, with a slightly crunchy exterior and a soft, doughy inside. The sweet and tangy lemon frosting is a perfect complement to the pastry. It's a delightful treat to enjoy as a mid-day snack or served as a dessert during a social gathering with friends and family.

Instructions

.In a saucepan, combine the butter and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil
.Stir together the flour, cornstarch, sugar, and vanilla extract. Set aside.
.Add the flour mixture to the boiling water mixture, stirring constantly for 2 minutes or until the dough forms a ball.
.Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until incorporated.
.Stir in baking powder.
.Heat enough oil in a large, deep saucepan or stockpot until hot to deep-fry the crullers.
.Drop tablespoons of dough into the oil and fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
.Combine confectioners' sugar and lemon juice to make the frosting, then dip the crullers in the frosting.
