4 large firm tart apples ( such as Jonagold , McIntosh , or Granny Smith )
3 tablespoons red currant jelly
1/4 cup fresh cranberries , halved
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon , divided
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 cup german marzipan ( chopped or grated )
1 container sour cream
2 tablespoons confectioners ' sugar

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
2.Core the apples leaving the bottom intact.
3.In a small bowl, mix the red currant jelly, cranberries, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and nutmeg. Fill each apple with the mixture and place them in a baking dish.
4.In another bowl, mix the marzipan and remaining 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Spoon the mixture on top of the filled apples.
5.Cover the apples with foil, and bake for approximately 40 minutes. Remove the foil for the final 5 minutes of baking time to allow the marzipan to brown slightly.
6.While baking, prepare the sour cream by whisking it with 2 tablespoons of confectioners' sugar. Once the apples are baked, serve them hot with the sour cream.
