Breadsticks are a staple of Italian cuisine, often served as an appetizer or side dish. This particular recipe allows for customization with toppings like garlic, parmesan cheese, poppy seeds, and more. The bread flour and semolina flour mixture gives the breadsticks a tender, chewy texture that complements their savory flavor perfectly. These breadsticks are easy to make and can be enjoyed on their own or with a variety of dishes, making them a versatile addition to any meal.

Instructions

1.In a bread machine or stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the water, olive oil, bread flour, semolina flour, grated parmesan cheese, sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
2.If using a bread machine, allow the dough to rise one time according to the manufacturer's instructions. For stand mixers, let the dough rise in a greased bowl covered with a clean, damp towel in a warm, draft-free place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
3.Preheat the oven to 400 F.
4.Divide the dough into 8 pieces and shape each piece into a ball. Roll each ball into a long rope, approximately 8-10 inches long. Brush each breadstick with olive oil, and sprinkle with garlic, parmesan cheese, and/or seasoning salt. Optionally, sprinkle breadsticks with poppy seeds, sesame seeds, kosher salt, dried onion flakes, or minced olives.
5.Arrange the breadsticks on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
6.Serve warm with a side of marinara sauce or enjoy on their own!
