Ingredients

1 onion , thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons flour
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup reduced-sodium fat-free beef broth
1/2 cup shredded gruyere cheese
2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
salt and pepper , to taste
1 1/4 - 1 1/2 lbs beef rib eye steaks , cut 2 inches thick , trimmed of fat
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon cracked pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried onion flakes
1/2 teaspoon dried garlic flakes
1 teaspoon olive oil
1/2 cup shredded swiss cheese ( about 2 ozs ) or 1/2 cup gruyere cheese ( about 2 ozs )
1/2 cup reduced-sodium fat-free beef broth
French Onion Rib-Eye Steaks are a delicious and hearty recipe, perfect for a special meal. Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
2.In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and sprinkle with sugar. Cook until the onions are caramelized and browned, stirring occasionally for about 10 to 12 minutes.
3.Gradually add in flour, stirring continuously until the mixture turns smooth brown. Slowly pour in milk and broth, boil and stir continuously for about 5 minutes or until the mixture thickens.
4.Remove from heat, stir in the grated Gruyere cheese and Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
5.Season both sides of the rib-eye steaks with kosher salt, cracked pepper, onion flakes, and garlic flakes. Heat olive oil in a skillet over high heat. Add the steaks and sear for 3 minutes on both sides until browned.
6.Top onions evenly on each steak, sprinkle with shredded Swiss cheese and pour beef broth around steaks.
7.Bake in preheated oven for about 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
8.Serve with your favorite sides and enjoy!
