Ingredients

1/4 cup olive oil
1 onion , chopped
1 green bell pepper , chopped
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 cans diced tomatoes
1 can chicken broth
1 cup white wine
1 can tomato paste
1/4 cup dried parsley
2 teaspoons crushed dried basil
1 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 pound shrimp , peeled and deveined
1 pound cod fillets , cut into 2-inch chunks
8 clams in shell , scrubbed , or more to taste
8 mussels , cleaned and debearded , or more to taste
Fisherman's Wharf Cioppino is a stew made with a variety of seafood ingredients that is believed to have originated in the Italian-American community of San Francisco, California. The dish was originally made by Italian immigrant fishermen on the docks of the city and is now enjoyed around the world. This seafood medley of fish, clams, mussels and shrimp cooked in a tomato-based broth with wine, herbs and spices is a hearty and flavorful meal that is perfect for a special occasion or for a delicious dinner.

Instructions

1.In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat and sauté the chopped onions, garlic and bell pepper for about 5 minutes, until the onion is translucent.
2.Add in the diced tomatoes, chicken broth, tomato paste and white wine. Add in the parsley, basil, oregano, red pepper flakes and black pepper. Stir the ingredients together and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover the pot and let it simmer for about 20 minutes.
3.After the sauce has thickened, add in the chunks of cod, mussels, clams and peeled shrimp. Cover the pot and let it cook for another 10-15 minutes, until the fish is cooked through and the clams and mussels have started to open up.
4.Once the seafood is cooked and tender, it is ready to serve. Ladle the cioppino into bowls and enjoy with a crusty bread or crackers.
