Ingredients

1/2 kg fresh water fish head ( appr . 2 large , Rohu or Catla )
100 g lentils ( cooked )
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon fenugreek seeds ( roasted and ground )
1 tablespoon coriander ( finely chopped )
5 -8 green chilies ( split in halves )
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/4 cumin seed ( roasted and roughly ground )
tomatoes
onion
200 ml water
salt ( to taste )
vegetable oil
Dal Machh, also known as Fish N Lentil Chowder, is a popular Bangladeshi soup that is enjoyed all year round. This protein-rich soup is primarily made with fresh water fish head and lentils, and is an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. Instructions

1.Clean and wash the fish head thoroughly.
2.Lightly season with salt and turmeric and let it rest for 5 minutes.
3.Heat a pan, add oil and fry the fish head until it is well-browned. Take it out of the pan.
4.In the same oil in which you fried the fish head, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds and fry the onions in it.
5.Add the chopped tomatoes and let it cook until the mixture is soft and well done.
6.Add the cooked lentils and water to the mixture and give it a good stir.
7.Add turmeric, salt and slit green chillies.
8.Add the fish head and let the mixture simmer until the flavors have blended.
9.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
