Ingredients

2 cups cold whole milk
1/3 cup cornstarch
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground cardamom pod , sifted
1/4 cup slivered almonds
ground pistachios , for garnish
FIRNI is a popular dessert in Afghanistan, often served during special occasions and celebrations. It is a creamy and sweet custard-like dish made from milk, sugar, and cornstarch. Instructions

1.In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup of milk and cornstarch. Mix well until the cornstarch dissolves.
2.In a non-stick pot, combine the remaining milk and sugar. Bring to simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
3.Add the cardamom to the milk mixture. Mix well.
4.Add the cornstarch mixture to the milk mixture and stir well until the mixture begins to thicken.
5.Sprinkle the slivered almonds on top and mix well.
6.Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature.
7.Pour the FIRNI into separate serving bowls and garnish with ground pistachios.
8.Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
