Ingredients

1/2 cup small dried chickpeas
1 garlic clove
1/2 lemon
2 cups yogurt
1/4 cup pine nuts or 1/2 cup cashews

6 pita bread , approximately
Fetteh is a popular Middle Eastern dish that consists of layered toasted pita bread, boiled chickpeas, and yogurt sauce. Instructions

1.Soak the chickpeas in water overnight.
2.Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
3.Drain the chickpeas and place them in a pot with enough water to cover them and half a teaspoon of salt. Cover and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until tender, about 45 minutes to an hour. Drain and set aside.
4.Crush the garlic with a pinch of salt in a mortar and pestle.
5.Squeeze the lemon juice into the yogurt and stir well.
6.Place the pita bread on a baking sheet and tear or cut them into bite-sized pieces. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with cumin and salt. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes or until golden brown.
7.Toast the pine nuts or cashews in a small pan for a few minutes.
8.To assemble, create layers of baked pita bread, cooked chickpeas, crushed garlic, and yogurt in a dish or individual bowls. Repeat until all ingredients are used up or to your preference. Top with pine nuts or cashews and drizzle with olive oil.
9.Serve warm or at room temperature.
