Ingredients

3 lbs beef short ribs ( Short ribs should be meaty and cut in the English cut . )
3/4 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons seasoning salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup cooking oil
2 cups onions , Sliced
1 1/2 cups hot water
8 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1/3 cup catsup
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
2 cloves garlic , Minced
2 large bay leaves

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350°F.
2.Combine flour, seasoning salt, and pepper in a plastic bag, and shake to mix.
3.Add short ribs to the bag, a few pieces at a time, and shake to coat.
4.In a large Dutch oven, heat oil over medium-high heat.
5.Brown short ribs on all sides, then remove from Dutch oven and place on a baking sheet.
6.Drain off excess oil from Dutch oven, then add onions and garlic. Cook until onions are translucent.
7.Add hot water, brown sugar, catsup, red wine vinegar, and bay leaves. Stir well, and bring to a boil.
8.Add short ribs back to Dutch oven.
9.Bake, covered, for 2 1/2 hours.
