1 lb stewing beef , cut in 1-inch cubes
flour
2 1/2 cups boiling water
2 beef bouillon cubes
1 small garlic clove

1 teaspoon sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup tomato juice
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup sliced carrot
1 cup cubed potato
1/2 cup diced celery

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2.Dust the beef cubes with flour and brown evenly in a Dutch oven or ovenproof pot.
3.Add to the pot the boiling water, beef bouillon cubes, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, allspice, sugar, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato juice.
4.Bring to a simmer, cover, and place in the preheated oven for about 2 hours.
5.Add the onions, carrots, potatoes, and celery and continue to cook for an additional 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until vegetables and meat are tender.
6.Serve hot with crusty bread, rice, or mashed potatoes.
