The English Sausage Roll, also known as a 'sausage in pastry', is a popular savory snack in the United Kingdom. It is typically served at parties, picnics, or as a quick snack to-go. The recipe is simple and consists of sausage meat wrapped in puff pastry dough, which is then baked in the oven until golden brown and crispy on the outside. This snack is enjoyed all year round and is often paired with ketchup or brown sauce.

Instructions

.Preheat oven to 400°F.
.Take out the puff pastry sheets from the fridge and let them sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.
.In a large bowl, mix together the sausage meat and finely chopped onion until well combined.
.Sprinkle your work surface with flour and roll out one puff pastry sheet into a rectangle shape.
.Cut the sheet in half lengthways to get two long rectangles.
.Divide the sausage mixture into two and spread it lengthways in a snake shape along the centre of each rectangle.
.Brush the beaten egg around the edges of the pastry.
.Carefully roll each of the pastry rectangles towards the centre where the sausage meat is, sealing tightly around the edge.
.Repeat the same process for the other puff pastry sheet.
.Cut each of the sausage rolls into several equally-sized smaller rolls.
.Brush the tops with beaten egg.
.Place on a baking sheet and bake for 20 - 25 minutes in the preheated oven until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
